Description:
I am proud to say that as a Levi Struass employee that my company is making a valient attempt at going green. Apparel is limited to what they can change in terms of helping the enviroment, but Levi's found a way. They are using organically grown cotton to fabricate their new 539 Eco jeans. Organic cotton uses no heavy machinery or pesticides during any portion of its growth and processing. Fields are tilled by hand and bugs removed by hand during the whole process so that little to no damage is done to the enviroment. In regards to the print ad, I really like how they incorporated the jeans and jacket into a natural setting. It shows how serious Levi Strauss is about about going green.

dr1183, a Levis' employee, reveals that one style of blue jean is made of 100% organic cotton. This hardly makes up for the thousands of styles (not units--that is in the millions!) made from non-organic cotton--the most pesticide dependent and toxic crop in production today. From khakis to blue jeans to t-shits to camp shirts, Levis is a massive supporter and user of conventional cotton. A token organic cotton jean doesn't impress me.

Organic isn't necessarily green

It was a good try to show them "green", but the whole process to produce a jean waste a lot of water and use chemicals and dyes that pollute the environment.
